Is Larry G making the right decision by taking a break?
I believe Larry G situation falls into the mystery category. How does someone who started having a good year suddenly decide to go silent, and no one can explain what is happening?
Especially after releasing a feature with one of the most trending artists in Nigeria, Hotkeed. Looking at his career, I don’t think it was a good decision to take a break, especially considering the way the industry is structured.
Here’s what I’m thinking: it’s hard to predict because what doesn’t work for Artist A in the music industry might work for Artist B, making it difficult for anyone to draw a definite conclusion.
In 2021–2022, CIC was virtually absent from the music scene, releasing only two songs. He later explained that he needed time away because of mental health struggles.
The interesting part is that his comeback worked. He returned strongly with “Don’t Give Up on Me” and eventually won Artist of the Year in 2024.
Jaredo disappeared for more than three years after losing a hard drive containing more than 800 unreleased songs, including his POA album and collaborations. That caused a major setback in his career.
The reason I brought up CIC and Jaredo is because what worked for these other artists to find the perfect timing won’t necessarily work for everyone.
Honestly, I don’t think Larry G should take a break if that is the case, especially at this stage of his career.
Larry G is still building his fanbase, especially after winning Next Rated Artist of the Year. Looking at the way he released “YOLO” and “Hustle,” I expected him to use that opportunity to build momentum rather than disappear.
The industry is oversaturated, and other artists might occupy the space he is currently fighting for. He isn’t as established as CIC to guarantee that he can make a huge comeback after taking a long break.
