In the last few years, Liberians have frowned at their artists for copying foreign accents, a feeling that our own accent (Koloqua) hasn’t fully been push out there. Artists like Stunn, JzyNo, and F.A amongst others have been heavily criticized for singing in foreign accents but it now seems like a new wave for upcoming artists who think such a sound easily penetrates the African Market.
Don’t get it wrong, these are unique sounds, better for Afro Pop but do it give originality and identity to Liberian artists? Now, listening to one of Liberia best uprising superstar Larry G newest song featuring Nigerian sensation Hotkeed, you won’t easily tell the difference on who’s the Liberian because both sound the same.
Many at times, Artist seeking foreign collaborations purchase songs from foreign songwriters or producers to aid in linking them to a feature artist and that’s how the style changes. Probably “Hustle” wasn’t self written like the way Stunn “Balance” wasn’t written by himself, and that’s why we see such today.
The song HUSTLE is on all platforms, go stream and listen.
