Industry Outcast but Hip Hop favorite as the battle rap between Mr Church and Owezzy reveals enemies and suspicions of Big Hands undermining the Industry!
Yesterday, April 18 was set aside to be Hipco Day, giving exposure and celebrating Liberia own genre of music but the event got even better when the two rappers, Mr Church and Owezzy decided to go head to head in a live rap battle after weeks of online beef.
Last night might just have been another trap to discredit how good Mr Church is and he fell right into it. Owezzy won the night but does that mean Church is better? Nah, but not just at rap battles. He might have been hyped by those around him and that brought a bloody result.
Some fans and industry big hands including DJ Weezy, Pascal, Bucky Raw, Rickslyn Myers, and Lyee Bility (the big brother of Owezzy) have all sided against Mr Church, something fans from the Congregation and other camps see as unfair and suspects the battle was already staged to make Owezzy win, with some pointing fingers at the organizers for giving special care to him.
Let’s get this straight, Owezzy is a very talented rapper, along with Church should be way above the Liberian music industry but we are in a country where reality is shattered by favoritism and biases.
An industry should be a place for promotion but Liberia is the opposite of every good deeds and the recent online buzz against a particular rapper raises questions on the neutrality of key stakeholders and stagnation of fan’s mindset.
A rap battle shouldn’t just determine how good an artist is as the word saw the era of Cassidy who didn’t made it to mainstream music like Eminem and others.
Kudus to Owezzy and Church for giving us a show
