Liberian big names snubs while the Unknown gain recognition by BET and Grammy
With BET or Grammy nominating and monitoring Liberian artists who aren’t widely known locally, it has stir controversies across local media platforms on why the favorites aren’t recognized by the Recording Academy.
Yung Muse, Liberian-born singer and songwriter officially celebrated a major Grammy milestone. He won an award due to his role as a co-writer on Chris Brown's hit track "Sensational" (featuring Davido and Lojay).
Mon Rovia, while not yet officially nominated, this international Afro-Appalachian folk musician has been actively monitored and elevated by the Recording Academy. He was invited to the GRAMMY Museum in New York City for an official performance and panel discussion. He has also been featured directly across official Grammy media platforms, marking a massive breakthrough for the recognition of Liberian music.
Liberian artist 2C made history in 2007 by becoming the first Liberian artist to perform live on a BET Awards stage, performing in front of a massive crowd of over 50,000 fans during the festival weekend.
Though JZyNo became one of the few Liberian flag-bearers to receive an official invitation to attend the BET Awards following the global explosion of his hit single "Butta My Bread", but have never been featured by these Award Organizers.
As the new generation of Liberian music strive to change the narrative, Liberians are hopeful of a nomination in the nearest future.
